Spring is in full swing and we’re all enjoying the lovely sunny days and warm weather outside. But after you’ve worn yourself out with picnics and walks and sports, you might want something a little less physically intense to close out the day.
We recommend video games! They let you blow off steam, but also provide a lot of mental stimulation and sometimes even a great story, all from the comfort of your couch. Walmart’s got some of the best prices for your favorite system, be it the Nintendo Switch, an Xbox or the PlayStation 4 or 5 — see below for our top 12 picks.
Nintendo Switch
Just Dance 2022
If you’re looking for exercise, cool tunes and group fun, look no further than the Just Dance series. You’ll step, hop and bounce along to new and old hits from the likes of Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake and Meghan Trainor. And once you’ve sweated through the 40 included tracks, you can sign up for Just Dance Unlimited for access to hundreds more songs, spanning genres from all over the world (and also from past games).
The first month is free and you can cancel anytime. As for the game itself, it normally runs you $50, but right now it’s down to only $20 at Walmart.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Breath of the Wild is considered by many to be the best Zelda title yet, and one of the best Switch titles ever — so if you still haven’t picked a copy up, it’s not too late. Right now you can snap up this expansive, gorgeous adventure for only $40, a nice $20 discount.
Reviews are, predictably, glowing, with players calling it a “beautiful game with so much to do,” and “a great way to waste your time away.”
Even first-time players have a lot to say: “I’ve never played any Zelda games before, but I had a general idea of what they were like….I was kinda worried I wouldn’t understand or “get into it,” but I was wrong! So far the graphics and the open world has so much detail and epic views that I fell in love as soon as I looked over the mountain peak. If you’ve never played Zelda and you’re thinking about purchasing this game, do it!!”
New Pokémon Snap
New Pokémon Snap is a fantasy twist on a classic nature expedition, one where you ride in a pod around a variety of islands and take “photos” of Pokémon in their natural habitat. It’s fun, relaxing and beautiful, and can be enjoyed from the comfort of your couch. One mom says it’s “a relaxing game,” and her daughter loves it, while another gamer says they’re “hooked.” They add, “It has all the nostalgia from the original but with way more incredible photo opportunities and so many new Pokémon. It’s far more in-depth and detailed as well. Great for adults and kids alike.”
Xbox
Guardians of the Galaxy
This game takes everything you love about the hit movies — the goofy characters, the wild combat, and the classic tunes — and puts you in the cockpit. Fans of the comics will love the way the characters look like their on-page counterparts, while newcomers and vets alike will love the ability to make choices that affect the story.
This is one of the best games around, and the five-star reviews back that up. This player says it’s a “great narrative game, the gameplay is amazing and if you want a challenge put it on the highest difficulty…The soundtrack is amazing… I didn’t get to the main story till like 30 minutes in because I was listening to the songs.”
Sounds like it doubles as a jukebox too — grab it for 50 percent off at Walmart!
Halo Infinite
Halo just turned 20, but that’s no reason to feel old. Heck, there’s even a new show on Paramount+! While you wait for the premiere, why not enjoy the newest addition to the game series, with its expansive open-world structure, crazy new abilities and amped-up multiplayer? This was one of the top games of 2021 and it’s guaranteed to still be hot this year. Right now you can save $20 on this title, but at any price you’re sure to get your money’s worth thanks to the sheer number of ways to play this soon-to-be-classic.
Players call it “the best Halo yet,” with one happy customer adding that “as a Halo enthusiast since day one who prefers storyline first and online gaming later, in my opinion, this is the greatest depth, thought, creativity and production work that I could imagine; that I have been hoping to see from the Halo franchise for quite some time.”
Microsoft Flight Simulator
Maybe you haven’t been flying much lately, but you’ll certainly see the world when you pick up a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator for the Xbox Series X, which puts you in the cockpit. Travel to far away countries, brave real-time weather and get behind the yoke of some of your favorite aircrafts. You’re sure to be enchanted by the realism in this game, enough that it might sate your need for travel… or maybe just get you excited for the real thing!
Shoppers call it “as close to flying a real plane as you can get,” and add it’s “the flight game for anyone who wants realism that simply isn’t found in any other video games. From engine startup to taxiing to take off and landing, this is top-notch.”

PlayStation 4
The Outer Worlds
In this role-playing game, you’re a colonist looking for a new life on another planet… except your ship goes missing and reappears 70 years later, when the colony you were headed for is in dire straits. And you have special powers, now, too. Save your new planet, explore other worlds, and make choices that may determine the fate of the galaxy. You know, the usual stuff you do in space.
Gamers love this “fantastic RPG” that’s “such a blast,” with one player saying he’s “in the middle of my second play-through now!” And another gamer says “The story is very well written. The companions are fun and their quests are a blast to do. […] I have put so much time into the game and don’t think I am gonna stop anytime soon.” For only $13, it sounds like you’ll really get your money’s worth with this one.
Assassin’s Creed Origins
The Assassin’s Creed games are incredible for their engaging action and attention to historical detail — it’s like playing an immersive history lesson! This title in the long-running series takes players all the way back to ancient Egypt, where you’ll get to explore tombs and pyramids while also discovering the origin of the Assassins’ brotherhood.
This is a great entry point into the series for all new players, and it’s perfect for kids thanks to a non-combat exploration mode that lets players delve deep into Egyptian history without worrying about getting killed. And right now you can save $14!
It Takes Two
There are plenty of games about saving the world, but It Takes Two is all about saving a marriage — with a twist, of course. The titular married couple finds themselves turned into dolls and must survive a series of challenges around their own house with their own possessions. Can they work together despite their crumbling relationship? And what of their daughter, Rose, caught in the middle? This action-adventure game deals with big life questions in a very small world, and right now it’s on sale for only $21, a 50 percent discount.
Gamers love this title for its weird premise and engaging gameplay, with one player saying they were “really impressed with the design and creativity behind the game and mechanics. There are lots of unique co-op mechanics and things always get switched up to feel new. It never felt repetitive and I always look forward to playing. It has won a ton of awards and I can see why.”
It’s also a great couple’s game, as this wife attests: “This was the best purchase ever!! My husband and I played this, we always looked forward to our game time after work!! The story is great and boy was some of the in-game bickering spot on lol! 10/10 would recommend to play with your partner or friends!”
PlayStation 5
Riders Republic
The Riders Republic is the ultimate playground for fans of extreme sports. BMX, snowboarding and even base jumping are here for your action-packed delight, traveling through gorgeous environments and collecting and wearing killer threads in the process. This is a pretty recent title from a few months ago but it’s already on sale. Save $18 when you order a copy from Walmart, and you’ll be exploring canyons and forests on your trusty bike in no time.
Deathloop
Are you a big fan of films like Groundhog Day and Palm Springs? You know, where the main character gets stuck living the same day over and over again until they get it right? Deathloop is like that too, except each day is an action-packed string of assassinations. Can you eliminate all eight targets before time is up? Or are you going to have do it again, learning from your mistakes? This was one of the best titles of 2021 and right now you can save $31 on it.
The reviews are glowing, too, with at least one player saying they “loved playing through the levels and piecing together the story, then finally having that moment where it all clicked and beating the game. Amazing voice acting. I enjoyed the aesthetic of the game as well. Highly recommend to PS5 owners.”
The Nioh Collection
If you love watching sweeping action-packed samurai dramas but always wished you could have taken part, the Nioh series is made for you. The first game follows the adventure of an Irish sailor who finds himself caught up between warring clans in 17th century Japan. Oh, and there are demons. This copy of the game was remastered to look better for the PlayStation 5, too. The second game is a prequel, and it’s also included in the set, so you’re basically getting two games for the price of one!
The reviews quoted above reflect the most recent versions at the time of publication.
